Before switching over from a Virgin Media SuperHub 3 from my provider, the network signal barely reached my office upstairs, leaving me with a slow, unstable Wi-Fi connection with speeds below 10Mbps. You can connect any of them to your modem to serve as your network's router, and you can use any of them as range extenders in other rooms of your house. That's not the case with Nest Wifi, which features a dedicated router and smaller, separate range extenders -- those Nest Wifi Points. Easily troubleshoot your Google Wifi or Nest Wifi network. See devices with a poor connection from the updated Wi-Fi device view. Google Wifi is a mesh Wi-Fi system that replaces older, traditional routers with seamless coverage throughout your home—without the headaches of signal drops or dead zones.
It’s going to take some time to clean up this branding mess. Eventually, the old Nest products will be replaced by newer models with Google logos. While Nest was releasing its own branded devices, Google launched smart speakers and displays in its Google Home line. The original Google Home speaker launched in 2016, followed by the mega-popular Google Home Mini.
Wifi managers
If it's a network you no longer use, there is no need to migrate. If you'd like to stop migration notifications for these networks, you can remove your offline networks in the Google Wifi app by using the Google Wifi app to factory reset your offline network. Make sure you use the Google Wifi network owner's account for setup.Check who the owner is in the Google Wifi app. Only the owner of the Google Wifi network can migrate Google Wifi networks to the Google Home app. For "Import Google Wifi network" to appear, log into the Google Home app with the same account that is used as the "Owner" in the Google Wifi app.
A couple of years later, the company branched out with the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The company then operated independently from Google as a subsidiary of Alphabet, Inc. We’ll send you the fastest internet options, so you don’t have to find them. Create Routines that allow you to turn on compatible lights, check the weather, play the news, and more with one simple command. Regarding the note for "New device notifications" stating that it's only available with Nest WiFi, I have Google Wifi and it does allow new device notifications through the Home app.
Google Nest Wifi vs Google Wifi verdict: Should you upgrade?
Safety starts with understanding how developers collect and share your data. Data privacy and security practices may vary based on your use, region, and age. The developer provided this information and may update it over time. Turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat, or get an alert when there’s a person or package at your front door. Google Home on WearOS will be available as a preview as we continue to add controls and improvements.
It's more streamlined and simplified than the controls in the original Google Wifi app, but you can still use those Google Wifi controls with Nest Wifi if you so choose. Google Wifi is the mesh-capable wireless router designed by Google to provide Wi-Fi coverage and handle multiple active devices at the same time. Google Wifi can be used alongside the previous Google OnHub routers. Google has now released the next generation of Wi-Fi solutions, Nest Wifi which is also backward compatible with everything else.
Google Wifi app vs Google Home app: Which is better?
As has been said, the Google home app has the options for device prioritisation, parental controls etc but for the more technical settings, you still need the Google WiFi app for now. If you remove one of your satellites and then add a new device from the Google Home app, it will find the now factory reset satellite. Go through the settings, linking your Google WiFi details and voilà, all will appear in the Home app.
With the Google Wifi owner account, add your Google Wifi network to the Google Home app. Your devices, network settings, and information from your Google Wifi app will also be visible in the Google Home app. Not interested in the multiple colors or the Google Assistant voice controls that come with Nest Wifi points? You can save a few bucks by using Google Wifi Points, instead -- but your system won't be quite as fast at range.
What that means in practice is that you’ll be able to connect far more devices to the Nest Wifi before your bandwidth starts straining. If you tried to migrate from the Google Wifi app and got "You have no unmigrated networks," make sure you're logged into the Google Home App with the same account that you use in the Google Wifi App. For online networks that need to be migrated, follow the instructions above to add your Google Wifi network to the Google Home app.
"Nest Wifi has always been set up in the Google Home app, so we're now bringing this same functionality to existing Google Wifi users." That is no longer the case as the migration over to Google Home is finally here and becoming available for everyone who needs it. The entire process took all of 3 minutes and afterwards, I now have all my network controls for my Google Wi-Fi router in my Google Home app just like I have for the Nest Wi-Fi at the office. There isn’t much functional difference in the two, honestly, but this means I get to remove another needless app from my phone and I’m always a fan of trimming the fat. Another tidbit is the fact that the Google Home app now shows my router as a Nest Wi-Fi, not a Google Wi-Fi. The "Security features" doc says, "Some legacy WPA2 devices may be incompatible with WPA3 and experience connection issues when WPA3 transition mode is on. OnHub devices do not support WPA3."
Once the correct account is selected, you should be able to migrate your network. If you’re new to the Google Home app, follow the prompts to set up a home. Use the same Google Account in the Home app as you use in the Google Wifi app. Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) can't be combinedwith Nest Wifi or Google Wifi (Wi-Fi 5) in a mesh network. To migrate a Wi-Fi network, your Google Account needs to be both the owner of the network in the Google Wifi app and a member of the home in the Google Home app you want to migrate to. You'll also need the Google Home app to expand your network or to create new networks.
Google told us last August that it was “working on bringing the full functionality” of older Nest products to the Home app. Rather, users with old Nest devices and new are required to leave both apps installed, and use them interchangably to get things done. Google did not make the transition for its older routers back then since the Home app still lacked a lot of functionality. Now that all Wifi-related options have been added to the app, the Google Wifi app is being killed. If you added managers in your Google WiFi app to access your networks, they will be removed as well.
