The Nest Wifi router features those same two Ethernet jacks, but the Nest Wifi Points don't include Ethernet jacks at all. You can connect to the internet either wired or wirelessly. A wired connection requires an ethernet cord to connect your device directly to the internet. A wired connection will generally allow you to get the maximum speed available at your home, which means it will usually be faster.
Migrating your Google Wifi devices and settings to the Google Home app is not reversible. The Google Wifi app will be shut down and will only be able to be used to factory reset Wifi devices. If you want to make changes to your network, including to anyfeatures or settings, use the Google Home app. Oh, and speaking of those Nest Wifi Points, Google built a microphone and a speaker into each one.

Make the transition from the Google Home app before July, when the app will be removed and support will no longer be offered. If you can't find your internet network, make sure it is online. You can always reset your router if you are having trouble finding the network.
Each Point essentially doubles up as a Google Nest Mini with all the voice commands, music playback, and smart home controls you get with any Google smart speaker. There’s also a mute button on the back in case you want some privacy. The improved connection results from the increased coverage from the base Nest Wifi, which Google says covers 2,200 square feet vs the 1,500 square foot coverage from the older Google Wifi. In testing the new devices, I made the Nest Wifi my primary router, replaced one of the nodes with a Point, and reused an older Google Wifi router in my office. I’m now getting above at 120Mbps in every single room in my house, with each router in the same locations as before.

Google says the Nest Wifi is better in every way, with higher specs and some optional new smart home features. Follow the steps to migrate the Wi-Fi network to the Google Home app. Make sure to choose your friend or family member's home when asked what home to migrate the network to.
Of course, the biggest change to the ecosystem that comes with Nest Wifi Points’ addition is Google Assistant support. If your friend or family member already uses the Google Home app and has a home set up, ask them to invite you to become a home member, then skip to Step 2. You originally set up your Google Wifi devices in the Google Home app.
Flip the routers over, and it’s a similar story on both devices — two ethernet ports and a power port. Strangely, Google has opted for a barrel jack power connector for the Nest Wifi. This can happen if the Wi-Fi network you're trying to migrate isn't online.
Download the Google Home app if you haven't already, then follow the in-app steps to set up a new home. If you already use the Home app yourself, and need to create a new home for your friend or family member, learn how to create a home. In some cases, a Wi-Fi network may be offline because it's one you don't use anymore. Check the Google Wifi app to confirm which network you currently use, and make sure to select that network when you follow the steps to add your network to the Google Home app. You already have access to all of your Google Wifi devices in the Google Home app.

Existing managers in the Google Wifi app will be removed when you add your Google Wifi devices and settings to the Google Home app. You'll also no longer be able to add or remove managers in the Google Wifi app. Instead, you'll need to add others as Google Home app home members in order to give them access to your Wi-Fi and device settings. With Google Fiber 2 Gig, customers will receive the Google Fiber Multi-Gig Router and tri-band Mesh Extender. A dual-band device has a 2.4 Ghz band and 5 Ghz band, but our tri-band Mesh Extender adds an additional 5 Ghz band for devices to connect to.
Wi-Fi allows you to connect Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the internet without cables. Wi-Fi can sometimes have interferences that may slow down the speed of your connection. Starting May 25, Google Wifi users will only be able to add new devices or expand upon an existing setup by using the Google Home app. Then, in July, Google will end support for the Google Wifi app, remove it from all app markets and ask users to migrate their system controls over to Google Home. Since October of last year when Google launched the Nest Router, the Google Home app has been responsible for the discovery, setup, and management of that newer mesh router system. We have one set up in the office and I love the fact that my Wi-Fi network can be viewed and managed in my Home app alongside all the other smart home devices we have set up here.
